They Only Give You the Window Seat if You Ask for It

On the plane, preparing for take off. Watching the safety video, I can’t help thinking—

How applicable is a “slow, relaxed demeanor?”

In other words, were we in a situation requiring oxygen masks and life jackets, how likely would it be that people (a) don’t panic (b) know what they’re doing (c) don’t kill each other while trying to save each other?

“Ye of little faith,” somebody should tell me.

“Maybe I’m just being realistic?”

I didn’t think I’d want to watch television on my iPod, so I’m stuck watching season two of the Simple Life for the third hundredth time. ‘Snot bad.

I’m realizing now, as the drink cart is swiftly approaching my seat, that I could get a nice buzz, but I will take the high road and get some decaf coffee instead. Combined with 2 Benadryl’s, it should have a similarly pacifying effect.

Oh no!  I have dropped one of my Benadryl’s! Little pink salvation, I will find you! Whew, found it.

Ode to an in-flight meal, courtesy of Copa Airlines

Upper left, salad of carrots, cabbage, and iceberg

Promise vegetable spread next to an option sweet, vanilla cookie sandwich

Empty coffee cup sits proudly on upper right.

Sitting roll; preferably accompanied by Promise,

multi-grain for health.

A set of utensils, nicely wrapped in plastic

Consisting of all necessary accouterment.

It’s under here that the main meal lies.

‘Neath the aluminum, warmth awaits.

Lasagna. No veggie option here.

Looks tastier than reality.

Oh and the silverware are not plastic. Notable.

I’m takin’ that shit.

Here we go – flight number two

Ciudad de Panama a Santiago de Chile

‘Tis a nicer aircraft than before;

‘Tis a longer flight but only by fifty minutes.

Video on demand screen in front of my face.

Movies I can choose from:

  • My Week with Marilyn
  • Madagascar 3
  • The Ides of March
  • Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

…And

  • Spiderman with Andrew Garfield & Emma Stone.

I chose to watch this one because I’ve been wanting to see it.  Can I just say – the chemistry between these two jumps right out of my 7“ by 5” screen. That first kiss scene has me touching the rewind key over and over again.

In the newly created Cloverfield-like creature scene they use a scream sample that is used all too frequently in film and television.

Spiderman should know—all press is good press. So the vigilante-seeking Denis Leary is kind of a good guy, in the end.

I drank my first glass of wine and it felt so good! I’m now almost fully relaxed and about to start my second glass, oh, so nice.

I’ve just been served “lunch,” and here’s a little ditty inspired by their selection:

The second meal option I’m offered today

Contains similar items while some of them stray.

Rolls white instead of wheat;

Cookies Oreo for something sweet.

This time, there’s more cabbage in the salad.

In fact that’s all there is.

2 Promises can inspire a ballad

and this wine defines high altitude bliss.
